A Unique Advantage

One of our lead attorneys for this region, Anton Mertens, stands out as a uniquely qualified attorney at AGG. Born in Brussels and fluent in Dutch, French, and English, Anton offers unmatched acumen into legal issues impacting the Benelux region. He serves as Advisor for Economic Diplomacy to the Consulate General of Belgium in Atlanta and is the former president of the Belgian-American Chamber of the South. Anton’s deep-rooted understanding of both European and U.S. legal systems ensures that clients receive tailored, strategic, and effective solutions that align with their business goals.

Tycho Stahl, another lead attorney in our Benelux practice, is a frequent public speaker at various venues in the Netherlands and across Europe. With a deep understanding of Dutch culture and regular travel to the Netherlands, Tycho has built a strong network of contacts across various industries in the region. As a principal organizer, moderator, and speaker, he frequently contributes to panel events that bring together leaders from various sectors, leveraging his extensive experience and connections in the Netherlands.

 

 

Experience

  • Represented Belgian-based claims and risk management organization in the acquisition of a U.S. marine survey company.
  • Represented Dutch online marketing company in an affiliate transaction whereby both sides were simultaneously investing in each other’s company.
  • Represented a Dutch investor in the acquisition and operation of The Frog resort and golf course, together with a majority interest in related hotel and residential development.
  • Represented a large Dutch investment fund in acquisitions and dispositions of multiple types of properties, including regional malls, offices, and development properties. Advised on and maintained the structure of all transactions.
  • Represented a Dutch firm in acquiring 50% interests in three Australian regional shopping centers at a time when there were only 42 such centers in all of Australia, 21 of which were owned by the joint venture partner. This transaction required due diligence, purchase agreements and joint venture agreements. Given the strength of each of the two parties, the negotiations required significant negotiation and, ultimately, an agreement was reached. The aggregate price was substantial.
  • Advised U.S. specialty pharmaceutical company with restructuring of its international operations through a Luxembourg holding company and drafted related interservices agreement between U.S. parent and Luxembourg affiliate.
