Biography

Wes is a partner in the Real Estate practice, co-chair of the Industrial & Warehouse industry team, and a member of the Retail team.

Wes focuses on commercial real estate matters, working closely with owners/operators and developers to see their projects through from start to finish. He adeptly handles all facets of his clients’ projects, navigating them through matters related to acquisitions, divestitures, leasing issues, 1031 exchanges and structuring, financing, and refinancing existing debt. Wes also assists with the drafting and negotiation of operating agreements for joint venture projects and provides operations advice for stabilized assets.

Wes serves as a trusted adviser to clients operating in an array of industries, including multi-family housing, senior living, self-storage, cold-storage, industrial (warehouse and logistics), general retail and restaurant, and mixed use. He also helps both landlords and tenants in lease negotiations for large commercial properties. Additionally, Wes guides limited partners and investors in real estate-backed private equity transactions.

Pragmatic in his approach to deal making, Wes’ clients benefit from his ability to deeply understand the most important aspects of their projects and carefully analyze all options before them. He does not simply act as counsel, rather Wes is a true member of his client’s team, integral to the structuring, developing, and operating stages of their projects and the company at large. Whether the transaction is straightforward or full of complexities, he is ardent in identifying an optimal resolution to protect his clients’ interests and support their ultimate goals. Due to his in-depth familiarity with his clients’ businesses, Wes regularly connects many of his clients to form partnerships on new transactions across the U.S.

As an active participant in his community, Wes is a dedicated supporter of nonprofits that provide relief to at-risk families and the refugee community. He also serves as a member of the American Bar Association’s Real Estate Section and the Urban Land Institute, which helps guide the responsible development of Atlanta. Previously, he sat on the board of directors of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business Young Alumni.
