Biography

Kara is a partner in the Healthcare, Litigation, and Government Investigations practices and member of the Hospitals & Health Systems and Post-Acute & Long-Term Care industry teams. She has extensive experience in government investigations and litigation, particularly in healthcare law.

Kara helps clients facing scrutiny from government agencies and focuses on navigating the intricate landscape of healthcare compliance and fraud and abuse matters while ensuring that her clients receive comprehensive counsel tailored to their unique circumstances. Kara represents healthcare providers, including hospitals, physicians, ancillary service providers, value-based care organizations, long-term care providers, and medical device manufacturers, in a wide array of government investigations. From allegations of billing fraud and kickbacks to violations of the False Claims Act and Stark law, Kara possesses the insights and litigation acumen necessary to guide clients through legal challenges. Kara also has extensive experience in provider survey appeals, Certificate of Need, and other administrative disputes. She keeps up with the latest in healthcare law and regulatory trends by publishing articles, participating in seminars, and engaging in thought leadership.

Outside of healthcare, Kara also has experience defending clients in investigations and actions in other highly regulated fields, such as financial services and nuclear energy. Recognizing the gravity of government investigations in these sectors, she prioritizes proactive risk management strategies, working closely with clients to develop compliance programs and internal controls designed to mitigate potential liabilities. She helps clients safeguard against regulatory violations and minimize exposure to enforcement actions.
