David W. Smith

Dave, AGG’s Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for the firm’s accounting, finance, client information, and reporting services. Dave has more than 30 years of experience in the accounting and finance arena, with a mix of both corporate and professional services firms including multinational and multi-state operations.

In addition to financial experience, he has also been tasked with various IT conversion projects and process improvements as well as HR leadership roles within professional service firms to form a well-rounded, expansive CFO career.

Prior to joining AGG, Dave served as the CFO of Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP for five years, where he guided the former Sutherland Asbill Brenan LLP on financial matters through the eventual combination with Eversheds (UK) LLP as of February 2017. Prior to Eversheds Sutherland, Dave served as CFO for Ford & Harrison LLP for nine years, where he gained knowledge on multi-state operations.

Dave began his career in professional service firms as the Director of Financial Accounting at AGG in 2001. He began his corporate accounting experience with Mercer Consulting, a division of Marsh, after graduating from university in 1986. He has served in varying capacities, from office controller in Dallas beginning in 1986, to South region controller in 1998.

Dave has also been an active member of the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) for more than 10 years, supporting the membership and working with peer firms to increase participation and action from business and financial leaders. He served a six-year voluntary term as the business and financial management VP peer group leader, advancing financial and profitability concerns to peer CFOs and other finance leaders, and increasing finance membership within ILTA.
