Biography
Bert is a partner and chair of the Private Wealth practice. He is a trusted advisor to high net worth individuals including some of the wealthiest families in the country. His law practice is national in scope and focuses exclusively on complex wealth transfer planning, business succession planning, charitable planning, and sophisticated post-mortem planning and administration. Bert has particular experience guiding clients through the issues surrounding the transfer of ownership of large family business interests, and in planning in anticipation of liquidity events. Clients are drawn to his genuine approach to developing long-term relationships and his drive to provide an extraordinary and personalized experience.
Bert is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the former chair of the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia. He has co-authored the leading treatise on Georgia estate planning and estate administration and has authored many published articles. He is a frequent lecturer on sophisticated planning topics. Bert has also been selected as “Atlanta Lawyer of the Year” in his specialty of Trusts and Estates and is listed in Chambers at the highest level.
Deeply involved in community endeavors, Bert is an active board member for various organizations including serving as chairman for the Piedmont Healthcare Foundation and on the Boards of the High Museum of Art, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, and Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta. He is a recipient of the “Greater Good Award” by the Georgia Planned Giving Council in recognition of outstanding philanthropic contributions.
