AGG Intellectual Property partner and member of the Dietary Supplements team, Matt Zapadka, presented, “Decomposing Regulatory Risk: How to Develop and Market Compliant and Impactful Myco Products,” at the Mushroom Summit 2023 on June 20, 2023, in Denver Colorado.

Mushroom-based food and dietary supplement ingredients and finished products are subject to the same basic regulatory requirements as any botanical, vitamin, or mineral-based ingredient or supplement, but face certain challenges specific to fungi. Large multi-national corporations and small startups play on a level field when it comes to demonstrating and notifying FDA of the safety of ingredients or providing structure function claims substantiation when requested by FTC or the plaintiffs bar. Through a myco-lens, this session provided C-level executives and entrepreneurs alike with a basic understanding of statutory regulatory requirements and strategies for reducing regulatory risk while efficiently developing a product that makes a difference in the market.
