Government Affairs and Public Policy

The Government Affairs and Public Policy Practice Team is an interdisciplinary group formed to bring professional experience, insight and expertise to the demanding field of government relations, government procurement, regulatory issues and public policy. This expertise enables our clients to effectively interact with all levels of government within their respective industries.

The team draws on the experience of attorneys and policy professionals, including former federal, state and local government leaders. Rusty Paul, Director of the Government Affairs Team, is a former HUD Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations and a former Georgia State Senator. Prior to his Senate confirmation, he served as deputy assistant secretary for grant programs. With 40 years of governmental and political experience, Bob Shaw, Manager of the Government Affairs Team, is a former two-term Georgia Republican Party Chairman and six-time Fulton County (Atlanta) Republican Party Chairman. An expert in economic development, infrastructure and financial services issues, Bob serves as chairman of the Development Authority of Fulton County and of the Joint Economic Development Authority of Metro Atlanta. Dan Formby was a Deputy Attorney General in the Georgia Attorney General's Office prior to joining the firm. As Director of the Attorney General's Commercial Transactions and Litigation Division, he conducted a broad administrative, regulatory and public finance practice.

Attorneys serving on the Team have represented agencies such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ). They have served as Assistant United States Attorney and Assistant District Attorney. These individuals, teamed with expert attorneys across practice areas including Healthcare, Economic Development and Sustainable Business, have broad knowledge about the inner workings of government, such as government contracts and procurement, policy creation and regulatory matters.
